Deserving Henley (The Refuge #2) by Susan Stoker

Years of adversity have molded Henley McClure into the attentive, conscientious psychologist she is today. She lives for her daughter, Jasna, and her work at The Refuge, an exclusive retreat for victims of PTSD. Her life is fulfilling....if a little lonely. But the only man who's captured her interest, the the most standoffish of the mountain retreat's seven owners, lives in self-imposed isolation. It will take a little vulnerability on her own part, a dead car battery, and the surprising help of her daughter to break through Finn's defenses. Deserving Henley by Susan Stoker was published in January 2023. This is book two of The Refuge series.

I loved the two characters in this book. Finn is a big old sweetheart that you met through the other book. He is very isolated because of his past that you get to see more about throughout the book on why he isolates himself and is drawn to animals. I also loved getting to know Henley. You see her a little bit through the other book but in this book you get to see her shine. You also get to learn more about Henley and how she became a single mom of an preteen daughter. The relationship between Finn and Henley is so sweet and how they first start tiptoes around each other. The plot in this book has great ebb and flow. There are some slow parts but it's easy to get past into some action parts. There is very low smut in this book but the romance in this book is high. I highly recommend checking out this book.

Caught Up (Windy City #3) by Liz Tomforde

I'm a single dad and starting pitcher for Chicago's MLB team. I'm stretched too thin, but I don't want help raising my son. Each of his previous nannies only lasted a few weeks before I let them go. Now, my coach is putting his foot down by hiring the one person I can't fire - his daughter. Miller Montgomery is the last woman I should fall for. Too wild, too young, and too unattached. Chicago is just a quick stop for her. I thought I'd be counting down the days until she left, but summer feels too short when I start thinking about forever. Caught Up by Liz Tomforde was published in October 2023. This is book three of the Windy City series.

I was so excited when this book came out soon after I finished the other two books in the series. I absolutely loved the first two books in the series and could not wait to read the next book. This book was not at all disappointing. I loved Kai in this book and how he wanted to be this amazing dad to his little boy. He pulled on my heartstrings in how he wanted something to be the best for his little boy. But I also love how Miller threw every little thing into his plan to shake things up for him and his little boy. But also loved the relationship that Miller created with the little boy. It was not a wham bam thank you Ma'm kind of book. Now this one was slow to build till it exploded everywhere. The plot is amazing and how it was a slow build for the characters to fall in love through the series. Which really works well with the two characters. I highly recommend checking out this book series.

Quotes That I Loved

'If you're as terrible of a listener in the bedroom as you are in real life, Miller, I can promise you this, you wouldn't be allowed to come...Two can play this game, Montgomery. Now, let's go."
"You keep talking like that, Kai, and I'll be ditching the 'baseball' part and just be calling you 'daddy.'"

"If you're going to start coming to my games, I better see Rhodes on your back and I'm not talking about my brother."
"Is this some athlete kink you got? Need to see a girl in your jersey?"
"I like to see pretty girls in my jersey. Like to take it off them too."
"Well, with that kind of promise, I'll be sure to wear it next time."

"Oh my God! You're impossible. You need to go. I'm not your problem to worry about."
"Yes, the fuck you are."
"Kai, I am not your problem."
"Be my problem."
"Then do something to make me your problem."

"All I can think about is fucking you right now, but you're out of your goddamn mind if you think any of this could be easily forgettable for me."

"I think I'm ruined by simply watching you come, so please, do me a favor and go to bed....And for the love of God...lock the fucking door."

"What are you doing?"
"I'm praying....What the fuck do you think I'm doing?"
"If my cock goes anywhere near that mouth of yours, I'm going to be done, and I'd really like to be inside your pussy when that happens."

"Good girl. You get a gold star for listening."

"Well, it doesn't matter if you see me or not. You're going to feel every inch of me. I'll be so deep, you'll be able to feel me in your fucking throat, and I can promise you, Miller, your body won't let you forget me."

"Miller...If you're this sad, I have a shoulder you could lean your legs on."

Flirting with Forever (Dirty Martini Running Club #4) by Claire Kingsley

Nora Lakes is sophisticated, successful, and happily single. Career problems aside, her life is fine the way it is, thank you very much. Sure, her best friends are all moving into a new season of life - full of husbands and babies and white picket fences. But that's not what Nora wants. Neither is the gruff, tattooed guy next door. Flirting with Forever by Claire Kingsley was published in March 2023. This is the fourth book in the Dirty Martini Running Club series.

I love Nora in the other books of her friends. In how she didn't care what men think. Of course we all know she does care but doesn't want it to effect her. I absolutely loved this book. I loved how she friended the teenage girl next door before she friended the dad. Also loved how the dad was a little jealous of her relationship with his daughter. This was a slow to warm romance but it was worth it when it exploded. I absolutely loved this book and yes, her friend's husbands/boyfriends do come to do their duty as protecting Nora. I highly recommend checking out this sweet, funny, love story.

Quotes That I Loved

"The thing about friendships, and boys for that matter, is that you never want to settle. Having acquaintances or people you can have fun with is fine, but you want to be careful about who you let into your circle of trust."
"So, you mean it's better to have no friends than bad friends?"
"Yes. Bad friends aren't really friends are they?"
"No, I guess not."
"And you never want to compromise who you are so other people will like you."

That rough, tattooed man could probably destroy my body in a hundred different ways. And by the way he was looking at me, he was thinking about it.

"Can I be honest about something?"
"Of course."
"You're kind of killing me tonight."
"Am I?....I thought you weren't interested."
"Yeah, we both know that's not true."

"Come in....I'm not done with you."

"Good girl."

"That's my dirty girl. Nice and wet for me."

"Careful, big guy, you know how I feel about spanking."
"My dirty girl. You love it."
"I really do. But later."

"Big romantic gestures are overrated. Too easy to fake. Mess up my hair and ruin my lipstick instead."
