Smoky Darling (Darling #1) by S.J Tilly

I fell in love with Beckett when I was 7. He broke my heart when I was 15. When I was 18, I promised myself I'd forget about him. And I did. For a dozen years. But now he's back home. Here. In Darling Lake. And I don't know if I should give in to the temptation swirling between us or run the other way.

She had a crush on me when she was a kid. But she was my brother's best friend's little sister. I didn't see her like that. And even if I had, she was too young. Our age difference was too great. But now I'm back home. And she's here. And she's all the way grown up. It wouldn't have worked back then. But I'll be damned if I won't get a taste of her now. Smoky Darling by S.J. Tilly was published on January 2023. This is the first book in the Darling series.

I found S.J. Tilly though another series and after that it's been history. I absolutely love the way she writes her books. I love that she gives a great story-line and also lots of fun pages sprinkled throughout. I love the backstory between the two characters and then fast forward to what was happening at the present. I didn't feel like their relationship was super fast because they have history. Even hinted at some history more then what was in the book. The characters both have faults but also strength which keeps each character balanced to seem real. They were both really easy to picture in my head. I really love a lot of scenes in this book and their banter back and forth. I highly recommend checking this book out. You won't be disappointed in S.J. Tilly books.

Quotes That I Loved

Elouise is hopping around, and her tits are bouncing, and I no longer care that there's a fire. What fire? Tits. All I see are tits.

"Are you gonna be quiet for me? Or do I need to leave?"
"I'll be quiet..."
"No one else sees you....Not even a silhouette....And no one hears you....not a single sound.....not a single moan....not even the smallest groan...not a peep, Elouise. Behave this time, or I'll have to find another way to keep your mouth occupied."

"If you know what's good for you, you're gonna shut your mouth and take your punishment like a good girl."

Her Steadfast Protector (Red Mark Rescue & Protect #3) by Aleesa Kelley

Morgan Blackwell can't stop looking over her shoulder. With her parents murdered and her little sister missing, the nineteen-year-old desperately tries to shake her pursuers and decipher her mom's frantic farewell message. And after a Navy SEAL about to deploy to Afghanistan vows to help her take refuge, her heart breaks anew when she tells her dark-haired savior goodbye. Her Steadfast Protector (Red Mark Rescue & Protect #3) by Alessa Kelly will published February 14th, 2024. This will be the third book in the Red Mark Rescue & Protect series.

I received this advance copy of this book for my honest review. I have not read book one or two in this series so my review is solely based on this book. The characters in this book are amazing. I felt like Morgan had so much depth throughout this story. Her love of wolves really effected everything she did and acted in the book. At so many parts I was waiting for the author to say the issue was that her parents linked her DNA with wolves. Because her mannerisms were described like they would a wolf. Also animals tend to love Morgan throughout the book. I felt like Tyler was a little more flat and didn't see much personality outside of his SEAL personality. I wanted more personality from Tyler in the book. The plot in this book flowed really well though I stumbled realizing we jumped from the first time they met to her coming to him. But it didn't take away from the book. The dialogue in this book was a little rusty in places and felt like it was forced rather then flowed. But, I was able to overlook it. I highly recommend checking this unique military romance out.

Quotes That I Loved

"Morgan, come on. You've got me, isn't that enough?"

"I just can't believe a beautiful woman like you hasn't caught the attention of another, well, I'd say suitor, but in your case, I guess ---another protector? How did you go on by yourself?"

"I only want to do this with you."
"I've got you."

Deserving Cora (The Refuge #4) by Susan Stoker

She needs to win him at the bachelor auction to save her friend...but didn't plan on falling in love. Cora needs to win the representative from The Refuge in the bachelor auction...it's literally a matter of life and death. But nothing goes according to her plan, and yet, she still manages to find herself in a diner with Pipe, telling him about her best friend who she is convinced has been kidnapped and is being held against her will. She needs Pipe and his former military friends from The Refuge to go to Arizona with her and find her friend, and break her out if necessary. Deserving Cora by Susan Stoker was published in November 2023. This is book four of The Refuge series.

Eeep, the wait was long to get this book from the library. But it was totally worth it to continue reading one of my favorite authors. This book was different then a lot of Susan Stoker's book. Where it doesn't finish and it leaves us with a cliffhanger. Susan....I don't like cliffhangers when the next book hasn't come out yet. Anyways, let's talk about the characters in this book. While you get to see some of the previous characters from the other books in this series they don't have the main part in this book. Yes, you get to hear about Tex in this book as well. Pipe is an introvert who doesn't like being the center of attention and yet he is being shoved on a stage where women try to buy him. Buy him a date. Of course the female lead, Cora tries to bid for him and she doesn't win but she got his attention. Which is a good thing because she needs his help. I thought Cora was really well rounded in this book. I could see how her past which you learn in pieces here and there and also hinted at some of it. But I didn't feel really contacted with Pipe in this book. I needed to know more about this man to be able to see what Cora sees of him. There was a little discontent. I did love the plot in this story though no happy ending for the whole plot. Which I have a feeling will come to end in the next book. I really like how it shows the men planning in this book of their next step on getting Lara out of her situation. I feel like all in all the men at Refuge are developing and opening more in each book in the series. The flow of this book is great and didn't want me to put it down (huge plus). The smut in this book and in a lot of Susan Stoker's books is tame. Which gives me a good breather from other books. Also....the mystery hacker I have a feeling more and more I know who it is...and it's not a male. I can't wait for the men at the Refuge to find that out in the future books. All in all it's a great read and can't wait to read the next one in the series.

Quotes That I Loved

She didn't want a pretty boy. She wanted someone who made people walk the other way when they saw him. Someone who wouldn't put up with anyone talking shit. Someone who looked as if they could, and would, protect their woman.

She was the kind of woman he'd always wanted by his side. Someone who wasn't scared to be with him, who would stick up for him, love him for who he was.

"Stupid woman doesn't realize that if the shit hits the fan while we're here, you'd be the person most likely to run to her rescue."

"....You and your friends...you're protectors."

"She's been here for like fifteen minutes and you guys are already claiming her?"

"...That kind of love and devotion is something people rarely experience. Your friend is damn lucky to have you, Cora. And in my eyes, that doesn't just make you pretty, it makes you fucking beautiful."

Twisted Lies (Twisted #4) by Ana Huang

Charming, deadly, and smart enough to hide it, Christian Harper is a monster dressed in the perfectly tailored suits of a gentleman. He has little use for morals and even less use for love, but he can't deny the strange pull he feels toward the woman living just one floor below him. She's the object of his darkest desires, the only puzzle he can't solve. And when the opportunity to get closer to her arises, he breaks his rules to offer her a deal she can't refuse. Every monster has their weakness. She's his. Twisted Lies by Ana Huang was published in June 2022. This is the fourth book in Twisted series.

Oh man, did this book not disappoint me at all. Sometimes by the fourth book in a series you get a lot of repeats of plots. This one did not though the plot has similar characters that we loved in books one through three. I had a feeling Christian was going to be hung up on Stella when she moved into his apartment. If you didn't know Christian was the one who hired Rhys to bodyguard for the Princess. Christian is such a complex creature in this book and I really wanted to go in depth of how he got to be this complex. But didn't really find closure for that part of the book. He's a pretty private person. Though, if you read other book series by Ana Huang you will see Christian throughout them doing things. I still felt like Christian could be a true person and not just a two-dimension character. Stella is not as well. You learn about her family and how much pressure she puts on herself to be perfect for her social media. I think I could find a million influsters who deal with the same feelings as Stella did in this book. The plot in this book is amazing and it has the perfect ebb and flow. Also no weird sentences that I trip over while reading (it's happened in other books). I really enjoy that it was instantly fall in love either. Both of them had to work for it which makes it even better. Also the smut in this book is supreme and not over the top. Highly recommend checking this book out. But highly recommend reading the other books in order.

Quotes That I Loved

"Touch Stella again, and you'll no longer have a fiancĂ©e." I slammed the door in his face. Dante was my first client and an old friend. I didn't provoke him often. But like I said, I didn't like people touching what was mine.

"Careful Stella....."I'm not the gentleman you think I am."

"What I want......is for you to be safe. There are bad people in this world, Butterfly, and some of them are in the room right outside. So next time, I don't care if I'm in the middle of conversation with the queen of fucking England. Interrupt me. Understand?"

"Is that all you want?"
"Not even close."
"Because you don't want to go through the trouble of finding another regular companion for events."
"Because I don't want to be jailed for murder if anyone touches a hair on your head."

"Stella was just about to tell me who her mystery man is."
"I bet he's hot....You can tell by the watch."
"That's what I said!....Great minds think alike."

Some photos were worth a thousand words. This photo said only one. Mine.

"I see caffeine hasn't improved your mood....I'd hoped it would bring Dr. Jekyell back. Mr. Hyde isn't doing it for me."

"If you saw yourself the way other people see you....you'd never doubt again."
"How do other people see me?"
"Like you're the most beautiful, most remarkable thing they've ever seen."

I wanted to fall to my knees and worship her with my mouth. To touch her, taste her, fucking drown in her.

"Do you like being finger fucked out in the open like a good little slut?"

"Good girl"

Dom (Alliance #3) by S.J. Tilly

When I was nine, I went to my first funeral. Along with accepting my father's death, I had to accept new and awful truths I wasn't prepared for. When I was nineteen, I went to my mother's funeral. We weren't close, but with her gone, I became more alone than ever before. Sure, I have a half-brother who runs The Alliance. And yeah, he's given me his protection - in the form of a bodyguard and chauffeur. But I don't have anyone that really knows me. No one to really love me. Until I meet him. The man in the airport. And when one chance meeting turns into something hotter, something more serious, I let myself believe that maybe he's the one. Maybe this man is the one who will finally save me from my loneliness. the one to give me the family I've always craved. Dom by S.J Tilly was published on September 2023. This is the third book of the Alliance series.

I absolutely loved book one and book two from this series. So I had to get this book the day it came out because the first two books were absolutely amazing. I was not disappointed at all in this book. I fell in love with Val and wanted to hug her so much. Also invite her to be my sister because her half-brother King and half-sister really didn't see her as a person. I really found a likeness in her and myself. I have three siblings who were adopted before I was born who want nothing to do with me. So I felt her pain in trying to be what they want her to be. With that I can see how she turned a blind eye to all the the flags that Dom was showing in the beginning. Dom, what can I say about Dom. I could tell when he fell for Val and saw her more then a person he had to trick to become a wife. I loved how he evolved in this book and how he slowly allowed Val to become more. The plot in this book are amazing. The plot flowed through the book so seamlessly. It was nice to see each main characters fall in love in the book. It didn't feel rushed at all. I loved it and I really can't wait to read more books by S.J. Tilly.

Quotes That I Loved

Holy fuck-me eyes. I blink. Scratch that. Holy fuck-me everything.

"Make me happy, Angel."
"Let me feed you. Eat your treat."

Lord, help me. This is going to be the best and worst flight ever. It'll be like sitting in front of a giant cheesecake but knowing you aren't allowed to take a bite.

"Keep teasin' me, see where it gets you."

"Guess so."
"Or maybe you drugged me."
"You've found me out. I'm not a web designer. I'm actually a drug lord."
"Drug lord? Do they still call them that?"
"I didn't say I was good at at it."
"I like you, Valentine Gandy."

"I need a taste of you, Angel. A taste of whatever you'll give me....Fuck, Valentine, I'd kill for just a kiss. But I'll taste those too if you let me."

"It's been a long time, and this sweet-as-candy pussy is about to suck the cum right out of me. So I need you to come, Valentine. I need you to be a good little girl and come first."

"Come for me....come on this cock. Show me what a good little wife you can be. Show me how I make you feel."

"If the question has been will you wear my ring, or would you perfer I tattoo your whole-ass finger like a psycho, my answer would've been a little different."

"You.Are.My.Wife........And people need to know that. If I can't trust you to wear a ring, I'll mark you myself for everyone to see."

"Maybe I didn't make myself clear when I tattooed your name across my fucking throat. This....is so everyone knows who I belong to."

"And inking the last words of my vow to you above my fucking dick....that's all for you, Angel. So when you're ready to wrap those lips around my cock and take me into your throat, you'll be eye level with my promise to you. Even on your knees, I'll still be yours."

"Just take it....take me like the good wife I know you are."

Spring Breeze (Hollywood Connections #2) by Lily Alexander

Her fiancĂ© left her at the alter. Now, his best friend is her boss. Addison's life turned upside down when her fiancĂ© took off minutes before their wedding. His best man Dennis was left as the messenger, and she thought it would be the last she saw of him, too. She has to find a new place to live, new friends, a new job and if her best friend has any say, a new man. When Dennis suddenly fits at least two of those categories, he's not so off-limits anymore. Spring Breeze by Lily Alexander was published in September 2021. This is book two of the Hollywood Connections series.

So this was the book that I read first in this book series. I know it's a huge shock to me as well. Though these books actually work well on being stand-alone. Though you will kind of get what happens in other books in the series. The characters in this book had me laughing at their antics but also at some of the stupid mis-communication. The plot brought me in fast when Addison's life changed at her wedding. Then on how Dennis feels for her and regrets being the one who had to deliver the news. Poor Addison though the news keeps coming. I feel for her throughout this book. I loved the two main characters and a lot of the side characters as well. The two main characters both have a past and you learn about each thing that makes them that way slowly through the whole book. So it's not top heavy book. It's such a cute fun loving book. The plot is amazing where things steadily happens throughout the book but it's not too busy either. I highly recommend reading this book.

Quotes that I Loved

"I thought you might be a little more congratulatory. Bagging both sisters? Keeping the secret for months? It was tough, man."

....but it was still complicated and painful to go through the past, cutting ties with who you no longer were. Even if they were someone you no longer wished to be.

"You're alright. Come back to me. He's not welcome here."

"Blushing again means you're remembering naughty things." He pinned me with a look daring me to lie about it.

"Then there's you. You look like shit. Kind of like you tried to deep-throat a cactus."

"There's not a single red-blooded woman who doesn't appreciate a man's forearms when they roll up their shirt sleeves, bossman. Yours were up to your elbows and you had a pretty determined look on your face."
"Makes me feel a certain kind of way."

Winter Bloom (Hollywood Connections #1) by Lily Alexander

Are you lost, Pea? That was the question my best friend asked me before inviting himself on my cross-country road trip. The one i hoped would help me find myself. We shared food, secrets, hotel rooms. Despite the near misses and almost kisses, it was the same as it always had been between us, just more. Instead of finding myself, we found each other. Winter Bloom by Lily Alexander was published in November 2020. This is book one of the Hollywood Connections series.

So I have to admit that I did not read this series in order so I read a further down the line book to see if the series was worth it. I never do this so this was a first. Thankfully each book can be a stand-alone but you do know things before they happened. Anyways, this was such a cute story though I chuckled at the nickname of Pea for the girl. It wasn't even the famous sweet pea nickname that I have seen in books. Just Pea. The two main characters took me awhile to really get into liking them. But I could picture how they fell in love as they have been friends for some time. I also saw the little things that the characters did for each other that say there was something more. Even when they couldn't tell themselves. This book starts a little slow but it speeds up and is really sweet. I highly recommend checking it out.

Quotes That I Loved

She was one of the brightest, shiniest people I knew, but I wasn't a fool. I knew many times those people were the ones struggling the hardest on the inside.

This man. He was everything.

Girls who read were girls who had active imaginations. I'd happily take such an attribute in a woman all day long.

My dainty little flower had managed to back her ass up directly into a cactus when she fell.

Slade (Anchor Me #5) by Lisa Carlisle

Slade is Caitlin best friend in the Marines. She doesn't know what to do in Okinawa without him. Yet Slade doesn't know that she is in love with him. He can't know because it would ruin their friendship. Slade hates the way the men treats Caitlyn and it drives him mad. He proposed a temporary situation by proposing. It's a marriage in name only, which is the only way he will be able to convince her. Problem is Slade is in love with her. She means everything to him. Slade by Lisa Carlisle was published in November 2020. This is book five of the Anchor Me series.

This book had me getting all different feels throughout it. I was sad to see that Caitlin dwelt with sexual attack and the man who did it was still at the same base as her. But also felt like the two of them were so stupid in not seeing that they were in love with each other. I loved this plot so much and it made me really excited when they finally admitted that they were in love. The book did have some slow parts and I felt like Caitlin was well rounded but really wanted to know more about Slade. What made him so protective of the women on base. Has he had someone close to him go through sexual attack. I would love have loved more backstory to him. But it's an amazing book and I recommend checking it out.

Quotes that I loved

"This isn't about romance, O'Neill." He gestured in a circular motion. "It's about being practical."

"Come on, you big, bad Marine. I'll protect you from all the teeny prehistoric monsters on the treacherous walk to the chow hall."

"I don't want that to happen with you. I can't imagine my life without you in it."

"Get off of my wife!" He lunged for Davis, yanking him off her.

Hunter (The Bang Shift #2) by Mandy Harbin

After finally getting out of her disastrous relationship, Maya Carmichael has sworn off all bad boys. Sure they're hot. The attitude? No thanks. But when her car is vandalized while on a night out with her roommate, she realizes her ex is truly sadistic. Her friend insists they lay low for a few days while the cops do their thing. Unfortunately her temporary haven will throw her in the path of another bad boy. Oh, she's heard stories about her roommate's brother, Hunter, and he's just the type she wants to avoid. Until she sees him....and all good intentions fly. Hunter by Mandy Harbin was published in March 2015. This is book two of the The Bang Shift series.

I absolutely loved this book so much. I loved Hunter and I kept yelling at Maya to show Hunter something. I knew that it was going to bite her in the butt. But I have to say through the whole book I was trying to figure out how Maya story and Hunter's past was going to come colliding. How were they intersecting. I was though surprised when it came to head. I really like this story and I felt like the love between Maya and Hunter didn't come out of left field or feel rush as Brody and and his girlfriend's did. I really felt both of the characters grew and I can't wait to read the next book in line.

A Quote that I Love

Innocence Defied ( New York #3) by Lainey Reese

Gage Hollister is a Southern Dom looking for a full time sub/slave. When his family's business brings him to New York City for an indefinite stay, he decides that now is the time to find her. Night after night he prowls the local BDSM club in search of a woman whose need to be dominated equals his thirst for true submission. As the search drags on he begins to wonder if his perfect match even exists. Innocence Defied by Lainey Reese was published in July 2013. This is the third book in the New York series.

I actually just finished this book yesterday so it's all fresh in my mind. I really love the main character Gage. You meet Gage in the second book of the series but you don't actually know him. This gives a little bit background of him but not only that you get to meet Zoe. Zoe is Brice's baby sister which takes on the whole issues of big brother protectiveness. I really love how Zoe only loved one person and that was Gage. Though, I really want to know more about the two main characters that I didn't get in this book. I want to know how did Gage become a Dom and why did he think that he could not love a single person. Also why didn't Zoe ever fight against the whole protectiveness not only her brother had but her parents. It felt like she was super young and not just turning 20. It's crazy...but the scenes in this book that make you all giddy inside are perfect. I highly recommend checking this book out.

Protecting Cheyenne (SEAL of Protection #5) by Susan Stoker

Living in Southern California, Cheyenne was used to seeing hot military men as she went about her daily business. An anonymous encounter at the grocery store cemented her crush on one such man. He was big, built, and incredibly easy on the eyes, but it wasn't like he would ever really notice her. Always in control of any situation, Faulkner "Dude" Cooper knows explosives. Disfigured by a bomb while on a mission, he's used to being looked at with pity. When he's called to a local supermarket to assist the local PD, the last thing he expects to find is a generous act of kindness performed by a beautiful amazing woman....Check out more in Protecting Cheyenne by Susan Stoker was published in March 28, 2015. This is the fifth book in SEAL of Protection series.

I really liked this book a lot more then most in this series. I am not sure why as a lot of Susan Stoker's are amazing books. But this one I really fell in love with the two main characters. I saw a lot of my self in Cheyenne. As I am really quiet but don't mind helping others. Also I had a crush on my husband from when we were twelve to the time we were married. Or if it's the way she writes the love scenes of these two is different then the others. Dude is a little more alpha then the others in sense. The relationship these two have is really special. It was not instant they are in love but it was instant attraction. They both have faults which I love when characters put faults in books. But, I love this book and will read it over and over again.

Marrying Caroline (SEAL of Protection #3.5) by Susan Stoker

Caroline and Wolf had a wild start to their relationship...plane hijacking, kidnapping, attempted drowning, and a terrorist plot foiled. Now things have calmed down and a wedding is in the works for the couple. By enlisting the help of Wolf's teammate, Cookie, Caroline is immersed in plans for her dream wedding. Of course, with their luck, things can never go without a hitch. Marrying Caroline by Susan Stoker was published in January 2015. This book is three point five in the series of SEAL of Protection.

This book is really sweet and really show the love of Caroline and Wolf throughout. But also the friendship between Caroline and Cookie. Of course it would not be a Susan Stoker book without the crazy turns and weird turn of events. I really enjoyed this book and I love that we had the same characters and they had the same personalities as they did in the other three books in the series. Susan Stoker really knows her characters well as they relay through the series with no weird personality changes. I highly recommend reading the other three books before reading this book. So you can get to know each of the main characters before and know their background.

Protecting Caroline (SEAL of Protection #1) by Susan Stoker

Matthew "Wolf" Steel hated flying commercial. Luckily his job as a Navy SEAL meant he didn't have to do it very often. He'd been unlucky enough to be assigned a middle seat on the cramped jet, but fortunately for him, the woman next to him was willing to switch seats with him. Hoping for a relaxing flight, Wolf was pleasantly surprised at the good conversation next to him. Neither Wolf or his companion were prepared for a terrorist hijacking of their plane. Protecting Caroline by Susan Stoker was published in September 2014. This is book one of the SEAL of Protection series.

This was one of the first books that I read by Susan Stoker. Yep, I have read the books out of series and in weird way. Anyways, I wasn't as much as a fan of this book as I was the other books that Susan Stoker has written. Though I did really like this book. I love how Caroline was the one who helped them all in the book at first. I love how they each have faults and the SEALs are not perfect. This book had amazing ups and downs that really help seal the book as being a great read. Susan Stoker has a way of words that you fall in love with the main characters but also each character you meet. Which is good since there are books for each SEAL. I absolutely recommend this book. You will not be disappointed. The only issue I had was I felt like the book was slow to get going but it rose and quicken in the plot line toward the end.
